Fillers Q & A

What are fillers?

Fillers are a popular injectable treatment in cosmetic medicine that can revamp several of your features to appear more youthful. They work by adding volume beneath your skin in targeted areas that have lost subdermal fat with age.

When you lose subdermal fat, your appearance changes slightly. Your facial contours may look subtly different than when you were younger. You might see more wrinkles, and certain areas might appear bonier. Fillers add temporary volume to these areas for more plumpness, a better shape, or better symmetry.

What are my options for fillers?

At Texas Skin Center, Dr. Sedrak uses hyaluronic acid dermal fillers for all filler procedures. Hyaluronic acid is a clear, lubricating substance that occurs naturally in many of the tissues in your body to help them hold moisture. Specifically, Dr. Sedrak uses these two high-end, long-lasting hyaluronic acid filler brands:

Juvéderm®

There are several Juvéderm fillers available. Some are better for certain parts of your face than others. They last for about 12-24 months on average.

Restylane®

The Restylane product line also includes more than one variety. These fillers last for 6-18 months at a time, but they might take slightly longer than Juvéderm fillers to take effect.

How can fillers change my appearance?

At Texas Skin Center, Dr. Sedrak works with you to form an individualized treatment plan using dermal fillers. He tells you which filler or fillers from the Juvéderm or Restylane line will work best to reach your goals.

Dr. Sedrak places fillers carefully to achieve the following results:

  • Fewer wrinkles
  • Fuller lips
  • Plumper cheeks
  • More facial symmetry
  • More volume in your temples
  • Less prominent scarring
  • Younger-looking hands

As the results from your fillers eventually wear off, you can book additional rounds of injections to continue enjoying these adjustments. Dr. Sedrak injects small amounts of filler at a time to build up to natural-looking results.

Are dermal filler injections painful?

Dr. Sedrak may offer you a topical anesthetic to soothe your skin before injecting the dermal fillers. Certain Juvéderm and Restylane fillers contain a small amount of lidocaine in the hyaluronic acid gel that numbs your tissues as it enters your skin. If Dr. Sedrak recommends one of these, you might not need a topical anesthetic.
